Activate Microsoft 365, 2019, 2016 and 2013.
Displays the "Sign in to set up Office" page that may appear after you install Office.
If you launch an Office app that is not activated, you will be prompted to sign in to Office. Sign in with the Microsoft account or the business or school account that you used to purchase or subscribe to Microsoft 365.
Note: If Office was pre-installed on your new device, see Activating Office pre-installed on a new Windows 10 device.
Display the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard.
If the Activation Wizard is displayed, Office needs your help to activate. Follow the instructions in the wizard to activate Office.
Activate Office that is pre-installed on a new Windows 10 device.
Displays the "Let's get started!" screen, indicating that this device contains an Office 365 trial.
When this screen is displayed, Office is installed as a trial version from the Microsoft 365 family.
This screen displays when you access Office that is pre-installed on a new device but does not have an Office product associated with your account.
To use Office on your new device, you can activate a one-month trial of Microsoft 365 Family. You can also purchase Office, add Office to an existing Microsoft 365 subscription or enter a product key from a new card. If you have an old copy of Office, you can install that instead.
Activate an Office purchase or offer included on a new Windows 10 device.
Office is installed as a one-year subscription or a one-time purchase.
The digital product key is transferred to your PC so you do not receive or need a printed product key. Office is activated by signing in with a Microsoft account. When your Microsoft account is recognised, it will appear on this screen. After you sign in, the product is added to your Microsoft account so you can reinstall it later or manage your new subscription without a product key.
Activate Office HUP
Displays the link you need to click to enter your product key for Microsoft HUP.
If you purchased Office Professional Plus, Visio Professional or Project Professional through your company's Microsoft HUP offering, select "I don't want to sign up or create an account" (at the bottom of the screen) and enter your product key.
Activate a brand new Office or Microsoft 365 product key.
Using your web browser, go to https://office.com/setup.
If you purchased a new Office product key card or received a product key when you purchased Office from an online store, go to Office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup and follow the on-screen instructions. This is a one-time process that adds your new product to your Microsoft account. After you have redeemed your key, you can install Office.
Dealing with activation errors
When Office is no longer licensed, all Office editing features are disabled. Your Office licence can disappear for a number of reasons. For example, if your Microsoft 365 subscription expires, you will need to renew it to get all Office features back.
If Office was pre-installed on your new PC, you will need to start a trial version of Microsoft 365 Family or buy Office to continue using Office.
